Countdown to COP

Since the Conference Of Parties COP26 in 2021, the group has set out to better understand and discuss the background to the UN COP process and to learn about Climate Change.

We were delighted to have a physical presence at COP 26 in Glasgow: some members ran intergenerational workshops during COP26 in November 2021; this work was further developed during the 'COP Fortnight' in November 2022. Our guidance on discussing Climate Change across the generations was launched on 26th April 2023. On 21st April 2023, a large group of members took part in ‘The Big One’ Climate Event organised by XR in London.

We discuss matters relating to Climate Change, including the Paris Agreement and how we can work together to keep alive the aim of keeping global warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. Outside speakers and members offer talks and presentations at meetings.

We have held in-person meet-ups in London, York and Edinburgh. In September 2023 we are holding an in-person Summer School at the Centre for Alternative Technology.

Members of the group are asked to agree to the discussion being recorded. A discussion forum, a facebook page and relevant WhatsApp groups are actively used. The group continues to learn about the UN COP process, with a focus on developments across each year, as pressure mounts to meet the aspirations of the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The group does not meet in December.
